Vocational Education and Training

Independent schools in Victoria are well represented in offering VET in the VCE and School Based New Apprenticeships (SBNA) programs to students.  Independent schools offer senior secondary students programs selected from the range of industry areas approved by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) as part of the Vet in the VCE Program/SBNA programs.

The Australian Government introduced the program in 1997 to promote school-to-work pathways and to implement apprenticeship and traineeships within schools. In the first year about 100 students from 10 schools took part – in 2006 VET programs reached more than 4,700 students from some 90 schools in the independent sector alone.

Australian Government funding of $929,062 is being allocated in 2006.

What's new

New AISV VE&T publication

AISV has just released its new publication ‘Vocational Education and Training in Schools- Good Practice Case Studies, AISV Survey 2006’. This publication arose from the need to identify good practice in the delivery of VE&T in independent schools and to provide schools with the opportunity to learn from each other to achieve continuous improvement in VE&T.
