RTO Information Association of Independent Schools Registered Training Organisation 22032 RTOs are registered by state and training authorities to deliver nationally recognised training. This means that the RTOs qualifications are recognized by all RTOs in Australia. AISV RTO can deliver the qualifications from the Training Packages which appear on its Scope of Registration, and that all of the qualifications it accredits are part of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). Frequently asked questions about VET can be found on the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority website. What is a training package? A Training Package is a document written in conjunction with a specific industry which sets out the rules and standards for the qualifications included in its training. Further information is available from the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations website. What is a unit? The most commonly studied VET qualifications in schools are usually at Certificate level. A Certificate is made up of a number of Units of Competency, which in turn, is comprised of Elements and Performance Criteria. When enough Units are completed according to the rules of the Training Package, the student receives an accredited certificate. A student completing a full and correct group of Units will gain a full Certificate. If a student achieves one or more units – but not a full certificate, they will still receive a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment. What does this mean to schools and students? The AISV RTO can accredit full or part qualifications as part of Vocational Education and Training in Victorian Certificate of Education (VET in VCE) or Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL). A student studying VET in VCE may gain additional ENTER points or block credits. Students enhance their resumes when undertaking VET. A list of all VET qualifications which count toward a student’s ENTER can be obtained from the VCAA website. Schools can enrol younger students in part or all of a VET certificate. Subjects such as Information Technology are particularly suited to enrolment of students in year 9 and 10 levels. The results obtained from these studies will remain on their results’ records and may, in future years, count toward senior level studies. How does a school apply to deliver AISV qualifications through an auspicing arrangement? Firstly, discussion needs to occur within the school as to the relevance of VET studies. This discussion will assist in determining the interest which exists within the staff and student community. If the school wishes to proceed with VET studies, check the Scope of Registration which AISV RTO currently holds. It would be wise to also check the National Information Training System (NTIS) website. What does auspicing mean? Auspicing in the VET sector involves an organisation entering into partnership with an RTO in order to have the training and assessment that it undertakes recognised under the National Training Framework. In such an arrangement, the RTO has responsibility for assuring the quality of the assessments conducted by the other organisation. Thus, the RTO is required to set up systems for monitoring and evaluating assessment processes and judgements about competence. The RTO is also responsible for issuing the qualifications and/or statements of attainment that ensue from that training. For further information, visit the National Centre for Vocational Education Research website (PDF). What to do if your school wishes to proceed? An ‘Application to Auspice with AISV’ form needs to be completed and faxed to AISV on (03) 9826 6066. Prior to any Memorandum of Understanding being signed, AISV will make contact with the school to make an appointment to discuss the auspicing arrangements. This discussion will ensure that the school is fully informed. Please contact The AISV RTO team for further information at rto@ais.vic.edu.au or on (03) 9825 7200. |
