Independent schools are accountable to government authorities and must comply with existing laws but they are independent. This means that they are able to develop their own policies, practices and procedures on such matters as student welfare, uniform, enrolment, curriculum and expected standards of behaviour. |
Complaints about schools Schools will provide parents with copies of their policies for school administration, parents and students to follow. It is essential that parents attempt to resolve any complaint with a teacher before approaching the principal and, if necessary, the Chair of the school board. AISV will not act as a mediator between parents and schools but if the matter remains unresolved or parents feel that the school has failed to take their concerns seriously, AISV might be able to assist parents to understand the school’s position. In talking with AISV, parents can request anonymity and need not name the school but if the school is named, AISV will contact the Principal to advise that a complaint has been received and the nature of that complaint. To contact AISV, please call 9825 7200.
