AISV Compliance Framework

Student Reporting

Please scroll to the bottom of the page for contacts and links

Do you need to comply?

Yes - under the provisions of the Schools Assistance Act 2004 (Cth.).

Conditions of compliance

Australian Government Regulations require that schools provide to parents student reports that comply with a number of criteria, as described below

If you have to comply, what do you have to do?

Reports must:

  1. Use plain language
  2. Be timely
  3. Be given at least twice per year
  4. Be confidential
  5. Deal with the child's academic and non-academic learning
  6. Be followed by an opportunity for the child and the parents to meet with the child's teachers to discuss all aspects of the report
  7. Use an at least five-point scale of achievement (such as A, B, C, D, E or equivalent) for all subjects studied, where each point is clearly defined against specific standards
  8. Give an accurate and objective assessment of the child's progress and achievement against national standards (if such standards are available) and relative to the performance of the child's peer group at the school

What are the consequences if you don't comply?

Independent schools receive funding from the Australian Government under the Schools Assistance Act 2004 (Cth.) subject to the conditions which are set out in the Act. To receive funding, the school must sign a funding agreement with the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) covering the 2005-2008 quadrennium.

The student reporting requirements is a condition under the Act.
