Yes, under the terms of your school's funding agreement with the Australian Government.

Conditions of compliance

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) Financial Questionnaire (FQ) is an annual collection of financial information from all non-government schools/systems receiving Australian Government Recurrent Grants. The provision of the FQ is a requirement under your Agreement signed between the school's Approved Authority and the Australian Government to receive general recurrent funding.

If you have to comply, what do you have to do?

Complete the DEEWR FQ online (password required - supplied by DEEWR) by the required date (usually 30 April).

From 2008, there is an additional requirement for schools to report expenditure on professional learning for the preceding school year. Please click here to download (pdf) a document from DEEWR outlining the definition of professional learning to be used for reporting purposes, as well as an explanation of expenditure which can and cannot be included in the amount reported.

What are the consequences if you don't comply?

Independent schools receive funding from the Australian Government under the Schools Assistance Act 2004 (Cth.) subject to the conditions which are set out in the Act. To receive funding, the school must sign a funding agreement with DEEWR covering the 2005-2008 quadrennium.

The FQ is a condition under the Act.
